The Kano State Police Command has launched the operations office of its new Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) to tackle violent crimes in the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, while launching the unit on Tuesday, described the event as a significant milestone in the command’s commitment to safer and more secure communities in the state.

“Today we officially kick off the operational office of the Violent Crimes Response Unit, established on April 24, 2026, under the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rulwan Disu.

“This launch represents the realization of our determination to fight violent crime with speed, precision and professionalism.

“The VCRU is a specialized tactical intelligent driving unit created to decisively address cases of armed robbery, kidnapping, hijacking and other violent crimes that threaten public safety and economic activities in Kano State.

“With the launch of this office, the Kano State Police Command is now in a better position to more quickly respond to distress calls for incidents of violent crime across the state, prevent, manage and control violent crimes through proactive deployments and intelligence-led operations.

“Investigate and prosecute offenders effectively, ensuring that justice is done openly and without delay. Our goal is simple. Reduce response times, dominate public space and deny criminals the freedom to operate in the State.

“The VCRU is not a one-size-fits-all police officer unit. To form this unit we have carefully selected and deployed trained, professional, committed, dedicated and result-oriented police officers. Each officer has undergone rigorous screening and mandatory training in tactical response, human rights, professional conduct and intelligence management in line with global best practices,” Bakori said.
