Police rescue 4 children in Lagos

Officers of the Lagos State Police Command have rescued four children believed to have been kidnapped from their homes.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, who announced this in a statement released on Sunday, said the rescue took place at Alafia Bus Terminal in Coker-Orile area of ​​the state.

According to the statement, the incident occurred at around 11:40 pm on May 8, 2026, when police officers on patrol saw four children with an unknown woman preparing to board a luxury bus bound for Lagos state.

The statement said the woman immediately fled the scene after seeing the presence of police officers, leaving her children behind.

“On May 8, 2026 at about 11.40pm, while carrying out a routine patrol in the vicinity of Alafia Bus Terminal, Coker-Orile, Police officers observed four children with an unknown woman about to board a luxury bus heading out of Lagos State. On seeing the Police patrol team, the suspected trafficker abandoned the children and fled the scene to an unknown destination,” the statement read.

Preliminary investigations later revealed that the children had previously been kidnapped from the Ijesha-Tedo area of ​​Lagos and allegedly moved out of the state before the police intervened.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the children had previously been abducted from Ijesha-Tedo area of ​​Lagos State and were to be moved out of the state during the night to an unknown destination before the timely intervention of the Police,” the statement added.

The children were immediately placed in protective custody while efforts began to trace their families.

“Their parents were subsequently contacted, and all four children have been safely reunited with them. An investigation is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and identify other individuals associated with the crime,” the statement said.

The Police Commissioner commended the patrol officers involved in the rescue for their vigilance and professionalism.

He also assured residents of the command’s resolve to continue protecting lives and property across the state.
