Police safely detonate IEDs in Maiduguri – THISAGE

The Borno Police Command has successfully averted what could have turned into a major security incident after recovering and safely detonating an improvised explosive device (IED) discovered in the Moduganari area of Maiduguri.

The timely intervention followed a routine surveillance and foot patrol conducted by police officers at around 9am on Tuesday, in Layin Logo, Moduganari, where a suspicious unattended bag was observed in the area.

According to the command’s public relations officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the discovery prompted an immediate tactical response by the patrol team, who quickly secured the scene to prevent civilian exposure and potential harm.

He explained that following standard security protocols, the police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit was promptly dispatched to the scene for further assessment and neutralization of the suspicious object.

Upon arrival, EOD specialists carried out a careful inspection and confirmed that the bag contained an improvised explosive device. The device was subsequently safely detonated in a controlled operation, ensuring no casualties or property damage was recorded.

The Command described the rapid and coordinated response as a demonstration of its increased vigilance and operational readiness in addressing emerging security threats across the State, particularly in densely populated communities.

ASP Daso assured residents that the Command remains fully committed to safeguarding lives and property, stressing that proactive policing and intelligence-led patrols will continue to be intensified in Maiduguri and other parts of Borno State.

It also urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious object, movement or individual to the nearest security formation or through designated emergency communication channels.

Daso added that investigations have begun to determine the origin and intended location of the explosive device, noting that the Command will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
