Chairman of the Rangers International Football Club Foundation, Coach Ebere Amaraizu, described freedom as the foundation of inner peace, unity, innovation, self-discovery and sustainable impact.
Coach Amaraizu stated this during a conference on Social Emotional Learning (SEL) organized by the Association of Nigeria Alumni for US Government Exchange, Enugu State Chapter, as part of its sixth mentorship series titled “Leadership + Impact” to celebrate #Freedom250.
The event was held on July 8, 2026 at the Enugu Window on America, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus.
Speaking as a certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) coach and social-emotional learning (SEL) expert, Coach Amaraizu explained that freedom creates the mental space needed for leadership.
When people are free from fear, they can tell the truth.
When people are free from ‘what will they say,’ they can truly hear the truth,” he said.
He noted that fear-based environments are the enemy of freedom because they fuel pretense and prevent genuine listening.
You can’t be empathetic when you’re trapped in survival mode.
Freedom gives you the mental space to notice others,” he added.
Coach Amaraizu has advocated for creating freedom-based environments in schools, workplaces and communities to promote active listening, communication, support, innovation and self-discovery.
Social-emotional skills will help create an atmosphere of freedom where a free mind can listen, a peaceful heart can feel, and responsive leadership skills that promote service.
This is how freedom creates impact,” he concluded.
The sixth mentorship series is part of USGEAAN Nigeria’s activities to celebrate *250 years of American independence and to equip young Nigerians with leadership and life skills.
