The Chicago sky has announced the appointment of the head of the National Women’s Basketball team of Nigeria (D’Atigress), Rena Wakama as an assistant coach before the 2025 season of the WNBA.
Wakama joins Courtney Paris and Tanisha Wrighton in Chief coach Tyler Marsh while the sky seeks to build a competitive team for the new season.
A historical training career
Wakama made history in 2023 when she became the first chief coach of the Nigeria Tigress and the first woman to win the Afrobasket of FIBA ββwomen.
The 32 -year -old coach strengthened her legacy at the Paris Olympic Games of 2024, where she guided Nigeria to the quarterfinals, turning them into the first African, evil or women’s first national team, to achieve that feat at the Olympic Games.
Because of her achievements, FIBA ββappointed her the best coach of the tournament in Paris.
Sky chief coach Tyler Marsh, praises Wakama
Welcoming Wakama to the coaching staff of the sky, chief coach Tyler Marsh expressed his confidence in his ability to elevate the team:
“Rena has shown that he has a winning mentality and attitude.”
“We have seen its success last summer with the Nigerian national team at the Olympic Games, based on an impressive winning record and extensive experience in training and development of players.”
“She is an excellent young leader and coach who will have a significant impact on the sky program.”
Wakama anxious for a new challenge
Speaking in his new role -playing appointment, Wakama declared:

From playing training excellence
Born in Raleight, North Carolina, Wakama played university basketball at the Western Carolina University (2010-14), winning honors of the second team of the Southern All-Tournament Conference.
After his career as a player, he made the transition to training, maintaining roles in:
Manhattan College (Director of Basketball Operations and Assistant Coach)
Stony Brook (2023-24) -Harly could take the team to a 28-5 record and a regular seasonal title of the coastal athletic association
Tulane (2024-25)-Assistant area before he moves to heaven
Help of Chicago Sky’s 2025 season
The Chicago sky will begin its regular season 2025 of the WNBA on May 17 against the Indiana fever in Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Before that, three preseason games will play, including a confrontation against the Brazilian national team on May 2.
