Repetition to investigate UBT budget expenditure

The House of Representatives has decided to audit expenditure 2023 and 2024 from the Benin University (UBTH) teaching hospital.

The green room will also review the 2025 hospital budget projection.

The Chairperson of the DPR Committee at the Public Health Institution, Patrick Umo, revealed this on Tuesday in Benin City during a supervision visit to the hospital.

He was accompanied by Billy Osawaru, who represented Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode federal constituents.

Umo said the visit was not a witch hunt but part of the committee’s constitutional mandate to ensure accountability and transparency in public health institutions.

He said: “We have examined the books and documents presented to the committee, although some of them are not as accurate as expected.”

The chairman also raised fears of debt related to hospital drug revolving funds, said the committee would thoroughly evaluate the documents and take the necessary actions if needed.

“The document has been submitted, concerns have been submitted, and the motion has been moved by my colleagues to be investigated, and the chairman has moved that the hospital must be investigated,” he said.
