Russia refuses Kiev’s proposal for the ceased 30 days

The spokesman for the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov rejected a proposal by Kyiv to extend a ceased of three days unilateral ceases declared by Russian President Vladimir Putin in the early May at 30 days.

Peskov confirmed that Moscow had examined the offer presented by the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, but said that several key issues had to be resolved first.

“Without answers to these questions, it is difficult to enter a lengthy fire in a cease,” he said, stressing that this was Putin’s position.

In March, Putin had outlined the conditions when the President of the United States Donald Trump proposed a similar fire of 30 days. These included restrictions on Ukraine using the break to group and renew her forces, as well as stop the shipments of western weapons to Kyiv. Putin did not offer concessions in return.

On Monday, Putin declared a unilateral fire from 8 to 11 May, coinciding with the annual victory of Russia on May 9, commemorating the end of the Second World War.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is among the foreign dignitaries who should participate in this year’s event in Moscow Red Square.

Peskov described the fire as a “gesture of good will”, while Zelensky rejected it as another attempt by Putin to manipulate the situation.
