Saint Finbarr’s College to host novel match in honor of the late Henry Nwosu on May 23

The much-awaited burial rites of the late former international midfielder Henry Nwosu will get underway on May 23 with a novelty match at Saint Finbarr’s College, Akoka, Lagos.

Sports247 learned that now that it has been confirmed that Nwosu’s burial will be held in Naze-Owerri, Imo State on June 6, a committee of friends is taking the bull by the horns by adding football to the activities.

Kanu, a committee member and former youth international, said on Monday that Nwosu’s burial activities will begin on May 23 with what he called ‘Final Whistle for a Legend’, which will be a match between alumni of the school he attended against some former Lagos players.

The two teams, tagged as Saint Finbarr’s Old Boys and Lagos Legends, will take the field at 10am on the said day, in what Kanu also tagged as “Boots Out For Henry Nwosu (MON).”

Kanu added in a press release: “We hereby confirm a novelty bout at the invitation of the Saint Finbarr Old Boys Association in honor of the late Henry Nwosu (MON).

“Date: Saturday, May 23, 2026; Location: Saint Finbarr’s College, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos. Time: 10:00 am.”
