Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has ordered the reopening of the Lagos Discount Food Market popularly called “Ounje Eko.”
The state government in March introduced a market with a 25 per cent discount on food items to address the current hardship in the state.
The market, which opens on Sundays, offers discounts to state residents on staple foods such as rice, pulses, gari, bread, eggs, tomatoes and peppers.
Spread across more than 50 locations across five state divisions.
These are Ikeja (27), Lagos Island (6), Ikorodu (9), Epe (5), and Badagry (10).
The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, and his counterpart for Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya, disclosed this in a post on the X platform on Wednesday.
It reads: “Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered that the Ounjè Eko Sunday market with a 25% discount must reopen on Sunday.”
