Boston knew the Scottish fans would come. What the city didn’t know was how thirsty they would be.
Sam Adams confirmed his Boston Taproom ran out of Samuel Adams Boston Lager over the weekend after the Tartan Army drank it dry.
From Thursday to Sunday, the brewery said Scottish fans consumed four times the amount of beer normally sold during a typical four-day holiday period like the Fourth of July.
“We’ve never seen anything like this,” said Billy DeCain of the Sam Adams Boston Taproom, which had to schedule an emergency delivery Saturday morning just to meet demand.
Hennessy’s bar, near City Hall, said the tartan army drank all the beer it had on hand over the weekend, after tripling the revenue they normally make on St. Patrick’s Day.

Federal Wine & Spirits in the Financial District ran out of every drop of beer it had in stock, while a refrigerator in the store broke down from the heat caused by the constant flow of customers opening and closing the front door.
Scottish fan Dave Orr bluntly summed up the scene in a Boston pub: “At The White Bull Tavern, there was no beer.

“The Scottish fans just drank the place dry and all they had was Bud Light.”
The thirst began even before the fans landed. Scottish fans reportedly drank a flight’s entire supply of beer on the way to Boston ahead of their World Cup opener against Haiti.
It is no surprise, given the occasion. Scotland will play its first World Cup since 1998.
John McGinn scored the winning goal as Scotland defeated Haiti 1-0 in their first match in Boston.

Following the victory, around 5,000 Scottish fans marched from Evans Way Park to Fenway Park for the Red Sox.
Scotland’s favorite beer Tennent’s has been working hard to meet demand at home; It is estimated that Scotland’s three group matches are equivalent to three Hogmanay celebrations in just ten days.
