Senator Ifeanyi Ubah dies in London

Senator representing Anambra South, Ifeanyi Ubah died while on a medical trip to the UK.

Ubah, a prominent business figure from the southeast region is also the Chief Executive of Capital Oil, which he founded in 2001.

Senator Ubah, a staunch supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), reportedly died at a London hotel where he had arrived just two days earlier.

News of his death was confirmed via a group chat of senators, who have begun paying tribute to their late colleague. The Senate and his family have yet to comment officially on the incident.

Ubah’s death comes days after his campaign council donated N71 million to the APC in Anambra State, in a bid to strengthen the party’s presence in the region. The donation included a personal contribution of N50 million from Ubah himself.

Until his death, Ubah was a successful businessman and entrepreneur. He also owned The Authority Newspaper, Ifeanyi Ubah FC football club, and managed the Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation.

A seasoned politician, Ubah has had a glittering career, contesting the 2014 Anambra governorship election under the Labour Party and then winning the Anambra South Senatorial election in 2019 under the Young Progressive Party (YPP).

He later defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party.

Ubah’s political career was marked by resilience and determination. In September 2022, he survived a horrific attack by gunmen in Enugwu-Ukwu, Anambra State, which killed at least five people, including two policemen. His bulletproof vehicle saved his life during the incident.

Ubah is married to Uchenna Ubah and has five children. He also founded the Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation, as a testament to his commitment to contributing to society.
