Swan suspends the president of Lagos, secretary

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) suspended the president of the Chapter of the State of Lagos, Mrs. Olatu Oladunni, and the secretary, Bello Omotunde Muritala, from all the activities of the association with immediate effect.

The decision announced a letter to them, with copies to the Police Inspector General, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, dated on Thursday 2 October 2025, followed the conclusions of the misconduct gross conduct, since the decision was taken in line with article 21, the section (1) A and C of the SWAN statute.

The national leadership directed both Olatu and beautiful to deliver the properties and documents of all the associations in their possession to the leadership of the Swan Lagos State Chapter, with the vice -president, Mr. Aaron Akerejola, now in the saddle to separate the current mandate of the state executive committee.

Part of the letter to IGP and other high officers of the police in the country, reads: “We write to formally notify you that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has ratified the suspension of Olatutu Oladunni and Bello Omotunde Muritla from all the activities of the Association.

“Nec’s decision is in line with Article 21 of SWAN statutory supply, number (1) A and C, following their various deeds of misconduct.

“With this notification, both people were commissioned to stay away from all problems, events, meetings, forums etc. as regards SWAN immediately.

“They are also in charge of presenting all the Swan properties/documents in their possession to the leadership of the chapter of the state of Swan Lagos now led by Aaron Akerejola, the interim president in line with the statutory arrangement of the swan, being the vice -president in the absence of the president.

“They are also not designed to be seen inside or around the Cigno secretariat located within the National Stadium Lagos, Mosupo Abiola Stadium Abuja or in any other office or swan secretariat anywhere in Nigeria.

“In addition, the members of the public are recommended not to trace any activity or to have any reports regarding the Swan with any of the suspended people listed in this correspondence.”

The Swan Nec has also suspended all electoral activities from the Swan Electoral Committee (Swaneco) in the chapter and revealed that further directives will be public in due course.

He expressed optimism that sustained efforts to plant trees would help make Abeokuta greener, Ogun State healthier and Nigeria more resilient to environmental risks. Badmos reaffirmed NES’s commitment to ongoing support, awareness creation and practical interventions aimed at promoting a cleaner and more sustainable environment. He congratulated the chapter members on the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, urging them to remain steadfast in their commitment to environmental protection and climate action. AND
