Tennis: Alcaraz fights to keep the Open French title

The reigning champion, Carlos Alcaraz, recovered from two sets down – saving three championship points on the road – to defeat Jannik Sinner in an incredible final by Singles French Open Men.
The Kingdom of Alcaraz on Roland Garros’s clay seemed to be over when the number one world sinner closed to the 5-3 victory in the fourth set.
But the 22-year-old Spanish showed an extraordinary struggle to win 4-6 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (10-2) after five hours and 29 minutes-the final open French final in history.

In an electrifying atmosphere on the Philippe Chatrier court, Alcaraz produced the best performance of his career to claim a fifth important title.
In his speech on victory, he said to Sinner: “The level you have is surprising. It is a privilege to share a court with you in every tournament and in making history”.
Alcaraz is the first man to win a Grand Slam title after saving the game since Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer in the 2019 Wimbledon final.
The world number two had never won a game after losing the two opening sets.
The sinner, who took a look at a triumph of girl Roland Garros, was denied his third consecutive third after a grueling, gritty and glorious encounter.
“It is easier to play than to speak now,” said the 23 -year -old, who was playing only in his second tournament since he returned from a three -month ban for failing two doping tests.
“I am still happy with this trophy – I won’t sleep very well tonight but that’s fine”.
The first Grand Slam projector between the two dominant players on the ATP tour had been an attractive perspective – and passed the hype.
Both Alcaraz and Sinner have gone-and the other-at the limit in a classic race that showed all their shot, athleticism and resilience.
Their fascinating rivalry is quickly transforming into a lasting duel that could transcend sport.
He has all the facets: the main talent, the compelling encounters in the biggest phases and the mixture of personality.
Alcaraz, with his style, passion and contagious smile, has long been a box office star involving millions of fans.
In the most difficult moments of the battle against the sinner, he continued to play with freedom – perhaps too much for his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero – and asked for more noise at the Polla in Paris.
