The ADC appointed an interim committee after dissolving the Kano State executive

The national leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dissolved the party’s executive committee in Kano State and inaugurated an interim committee to manage its affairs pending the emergence of new leadership.

The decision was announced on Monday in Kano by the party’s Deputy National Chairman (North West), Najaatu Mohammed, in a press conference held at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre.

Mohammed explained that the step was taken in accordance with the provisions of the party constitution and relevant electoral laws, and described it as an important step to maintain the stability of the party and ensure the continuity of its activities in the state.

“This important action is not out of preference but out of constitutional obligation. Every action taken has been guided by our party constitution, the Electoral Act and our shared responsibility to protect the future of the ADC in Kano State.

“Our Constitution exists precisely for times like these. It provides a legitimate path to restore stability, maintain continuity and ensure that party affairs are not disrupted,” he said.

He emphasized that the intervention by the party’s national leadership was aimed at maintaining institutional order and preventing a leadership vacuum that could weaken the party’s operations in Kano.

According to Mohammed, the dissolution of the state executive branch reflects the party’s commitment to constitutional governance and internal discipline.

“When circumstances create a leadership vacuum in any political organization, responsible leadership cannot give up and watch uncertainty destroy the institution. A political party is built on order, discipline and continuity. Without these pillars, confusion replaces organization and uncertainty replaces trust,” he said.

The ADC chairman, however, appealed to his members not to view the interim arrangement as a judgment on the performance or loyalty of party supporters in the state.

He stressed that the transition was purely an administrative measure designed to change the party’s position and was not a reflection of dissatisfaction with its grassroots supporters.

“The constitution of the interim committee should not be construed as a judgment on the commitment, loyalty or contribution of thousands of loyal members of our party across Kano State.

“Far from it. Our members remain the greatest strength of this party.”

Mohammed commended the party members for their dedication over the years, and noted that many of them had invested a great deal of time, personal resources and political capital to build and maintain ADCs across Kano State, even at a time when doing so provided little political gain.

He urged stakeholders, supporters and members to unite behind the interim committee to ensure a smooth transition and strengthen the party ahead of future political activities.

“If we remain true to the constitution and our democratic ideals, the future of the African Democratic Congress in Kano State will be stronger than ever,” he added.

Following the dissolution of the state executive body, the party announced the appointment of an interim committee headed by Alhaji Umar Bala as chairman, while Isma’il Musa will serve as secretary, with responsibility for managing the affairs of the ADC in Kano State until a substantive executive is formed.
