The APC accused the NNPP of planning to use local council funds for the elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday accused the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) of planning to use funds diverted from local councils for next month’s elections in the state.

The state government will hold elections in 44 local government areas of the state on October 26.

The APC chairman in the state, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, made the allegation in a statement on Thursday in Kano.

Abbas accused the state government of perfecting plans to finance its chosen candidates to participate in the elections through funds earmarked for local councils.

He urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) to thwart the plan.

The chairman said it was important for anti-crime agencies to closely monitor state ministries in matters of local government financial transactions.

He said, “The Ministry of Regional Government wants to use Directors of Civil Service (DPM) who have the status of civil servants and accountants who are suspected of using public funds to finance election machines.

β€œThe EFCC and ICPC should conduct a forensic audit of the 44 local government councils in Kano state in a bid to determine whether the funds have been tampered with.”

Abbas also urged the anti-corruption agency to invite the dismissed interim heads and show their recent spending records.
