“The government that has an impact does not require a long term of office, ‘Pharmacy supports OBi’s single -term proposal

Human rights lawyers and activists, Dele Farotimi, have supported the call of President Peter Obi for the Sing -Term President in Nigeria.

He argues that the historical extended term of office failed to produce meaningful national progress.

Speaking at the Sunrise Television Daily channel on Monday, Pharmacy criticized the performance of the president of the past and argued that the length of time in the office was less important than the quality of governance delivered.

He said: “((Olusegun) Obasanjo has eight years; what did he do with him? (Muhammadu) Buhari has eight years; what did he do with him?

He destroyed Nigeria. (Soccer President) Tinubu has had two years, and he brought us back 50 years.

“This is not about how much time the person spent; this is a function of what they do with the time they have.”

Obasanjo served as President of Nigeria from May 1999 to May 2007, while Buhari, who died on July 13, held a position from May 2015 to May 2023 before being handed over to Tinubu.

Farotimi, an old advocate for justice and systemic reform, states that governance that has an impact does not require a prolonged term of office.

“I first heard the idea of this one -range presidency from Peter Obi during the election cycle. This is not about how long he said he wanted to serve; I was more interested in what he wanted to do with that time,” he said.

“If I have ever nominated myself as Nigerian president, I will not need more than two years to do everything I need to do.”

Obi, a presidential candidate for the Labor Party in 2023, has repeatedly promised to serve only one term if elected, the first promise he made during the space session X which was widely attended in June. The former Governor of the State Anambra recently suggested amendments to the constitution to institutionalize the term of office of President five years, similar to the South Korean model, which prohibits re-election.

“If I have a chance, we must stop having a second term for the President. It must be five years. That is what is in South Korea, so people come and know that they have a job that must be done,” Obi said.
