The military intercepted 400 Starlinks devices used by terrorists

The Nigerian Army says it has intercepted more than 400 Starlink devices used by terrorists to communicate in the North East of the country.

This was disclosed on Tuesday by Sector 2 Commander, Operation Hadin Kai, Brigadier General Beyidi Martins while briefing journalists on the ongoing operations aimed at dismantling terrorist logistics and communications networks in the sector’s area of responsibility.

He said: “You’ll be interested to know that many arrests are made every day. For example, terrorists use the Starlink satellite network, and I think so far, in this sector, we’ve captured over 400 Starlink networks, and that has helped prevent them from getting connections easily.”

He also noted that the Army is collaborating with various transportation organizations across the region to curb logistics movements by terrorist groups in the region.

β€œWe managed to infiltrate the transportation networks of various transportation associations doing business in the area, and through this method we were able to track them.

“Through this, so many goods and logistics equipment were intercepted along the route from Kano via Nguru to Bukarti, to Geidam, and to several parts of the Gulabi Forest, as well as goods operating in the Timbuktu Triangle. These goods were even intercepted within our local market in Damaturu,” he added.

The commander further emphasized that the Army is also prioritizing monitoring of local livestock markets.

β€œVarious livestock markets also serve as places where grazing animals are sold through proxies by these terrorists,” he said.

According to him, the seizure was part of a broader effort by troops to disrupt logistics routes that support terrorist activities in the region.

β€œThe lifeline of terrorist activity is essentially the logistics they have access to throughout the region, which we are currently working to prevent,” he said.
