The Nigerian government indicted more than 600 suspected terrorists in court

The Nigerian government on Monday indicted more than 600 people suspected of committing terrorist acts before the Federal High Court in Abuja, in another phase of a terrorism trial.

Speaking to journalists after the indictment, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, said that the ongoing prosecution sends a clear and direct message that “the current administration is not taking the issue of terrorism lightly. That is why you see the trial underway”.

According to the AGF, the exercise marks the fourth phase of terrorism-related prosecutions under the administration of President Bola Tinubu, and stressed that acts of terrorism in any form will not be tolerated.

“Let everyone know that terrorism in any form will not be tolerated. We will fight with everything we have to make Nigeria a paradise for everyone,” he said.

Giving details of the ongoing stages, Fagbemi revealed that about 490 suspects had been charged on the first day, while an additional 84 suspects were expected to appear in court the following day. He noted that this figure does not include the 102 cases carried over from the previous phase.
