The strong rains destroy the houses, move the families in Jigawa

The heavy rains destroyed at least 70 houses and damaged other dozens in the area of the local government of Malam Madori in the state of Jigawa, leaving many displaced families.

The downpour, which started late on Saturday and lasted until Sunday morning, immersed several communities, with the neighborhoods of Tonikutara, Gandun Sark, Gandun Bundugoma and Shagari among the worst affected.

The flood waters overwhelmed underground channels and waterways, forcing residents to abandon their homes.

Dan-humah Abba, residing in Gandun Sark, said that his house was among more than 30 destroyed, urging the state government to provide urgent relief.

Bulama Jamilu, leader of the community, confirmed that most of the displaced families were taking refuge with relatives.

The president of Malam Madori Lga, Salisu Sani Garun-Gabas, expressed sympathy for the victims and directed the local emergency committee to conduct an evaluation.

The vice -president of the Committee, Amina Haruna Dokajo, said that the legislator represents the area, Hamza Adamu Babayaro, had given overturning soil and other rescue objects to help affected families.

He also revealed the plans to install a Gandun Sark water pump engine to channel alluvial waters.

A delegation of the state government led by the Special Councilor Senior of Flood, Hamza Muhammad Hadejia, visited the communities and ensured the residents of immediate intervention to mitigate the impact and prevent future catastrophes.
