Tinubu approves new police academy campus in Ogun, N15bn…

President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new Police Academy campus in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of ​​Ogun State.

Tinubu also approved a $15 billion special take-off grant for the college.

Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, in a statement on Monday, April 20, 2026, said the President’s approval is in fulfillment of the provisions of the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021, particularly as it relates to the expansion of the Police Academy located in Wudil, Kano State, into multiple campuses across the country.

Onanuga noted that the intervention fund will come from the TetFund 2026 allocation to finance priority infrastructure, academic facilities, student accommodation and critical training resources.

He said a high-level consultative meeting involving the Minister of Police Affairs, the Minister of Education, officials from the Federal Ministry of Education, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC) recommended the location of the new campus in Erinja.

Onanuga said the meeting considered student capacity, funding realities, academic quality assurance and the long-term needs of the Nigerian Police Force, which is currently recruiting more men.

Onanuga added that Tinubu believes the expansion will strengthen institutional governance, modern police training and national security.
