Tinubu delivers Ecowas to organic leadership, requires units, inclusive growth – Thage

President Bola Tinubu, Sunday in Abuja, delivered the presidency of the Ecowas authority of the heads of state and the government to the president Julius Maada Bio della Sierra Leone, expressing confidence in the continuous path towards peace, stability and prosperity.

The 67th ordinary session of the Ecowas authority closed with the symbolic delivery of the emblem on the incoming chair.

President Tinubu described him as a profound honor and privilege of having guided the esteemed body, adding that he was deeply humiliated by the trust and support extended to him during his two -terms mandate.

“While now I deliver the cloak of the leadership to my great friend and dear brother, the president of excellence Julius Maada Bio della Sierra Leone, the new president of the Ecowas authority of the heads of state and the government, I do it with a profound sense of realization and optimism for the future of West Africa.

“I am confident that with the continuous cooperation of all its members, Ecowas will reduce more hills in our collective research of peace, security, stability and prosperity for our people and our region,” he said.

By reflecting on his mandate, President Tinubu noticed the complex political and security challenges that the Region has faced in recent years, asking leaders to remain engaged in the evolution needs of the citizens of West Africa.

“We deepen the cooperation, support diplomatic principles and promote the inclusive growth that leaves no one behind, in particular our young people, women and vulnerable populations, who remain at the center of the future of our region,” he said.

President Tinubu underlined the need to preserve democratic values ​​and ensure that political stability is not separated from economic development.

“Our organization must continue to find a good balance between its main regional mandate of economic integration and complex political, security and governance challenges, including the conservation of democratic values ​​in our region.”

“Economic integration cannot be superimposed on an unsustainable political environment. That’s why we must remain still in our determination to face these emerging challenges,” said the Nigerian leader.

President Tinubu praised the Ecowas Commission, the institutions of the community and the technical staff for their dedication and professionalism in supporting the work of the authority and organizing a successful summit.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the shared mission of the Region and urged the continuous unity between the Member States.

“When you return to your respective countries, we let it remain resolved in our shared mission to deepen our integration, protect our people and build a prosperous, safe and united West Africa,” he said.

In his acceptance speech, the Bio President of the Sierra Leone, the newly elected president of the Ecowas authority of the heads of state and the government, has outlined four key priorities.

He has committed himself to guiding renewed Ecowa, focused on people and oriented towards action in the face of unprecedented challenges and opportunities for the West Africa region.

The Bio President said that his leadership would focus on the restoration of the constitutional order and on the deepening of democracy, in the revitalization of regional security cooperation, on the release of economic integration and on the creation of institutional credibility.

“We must constructively involve transition governments and support member states in the construction of stronger democratic institutions rooted in the rule of law.

“We must review our collective security architecture, from sharing intelligence to quick response skills, to face new threats with units and resolution.

“The liberalization scheme of Ecowas exchanges, regional infrastructures and cross -border value chains must become engines in the creation of jobs, trade and resilience, especially for our women and young people.

“Ecowas must reform to become more transparent, efficient and sensitive to the needs of his people. Here is how we will reconstruct the trust in regional cooperation,” he said.

The Bio President praised his predecessor, the president Tinubu, for having thrown a solid basis of regional dialogue, economic recovery and construction of peace. “

“I am humiliated to build on the strong foundation you have established,” he said, thanking President Tinubu for his “experience and leadership”.

Recognizing the complexities of the current moment, the leader of Sierra Leone noticed that West Africa is at a crossroads, struggling with terrorism, flow of illegal weapons, political instability and transnational crime, particularly in the States of Sahel and Coast.

“The democratic space is put to the test in some parts of our region. In some countries, the constitutional order has been interrupted. Yet, throughout West Africa, citizens, especially our young people, require not only elections, but also responsibilities, transparency and equally fair participation in national life,” said Sierra Leonean.
