President Bola Tinubu has approved the removal of Mr Saidu Mohammed from the post of Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
The President also approved the nomination of Mr. Rabiu Umar as the new Chief Executive of the institution.
However, the appointment still must be confirmed by the Senate.
This was disclosed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.
He said the decision was taken based on the Petroleum Industry Act 2021.

“This step aims to strengthen the effectiveness of regulations in the midstream and downstream petroleum sectors, in line with the New Hope Agenda.
” Umar is a seasoned executive with more than 25 years of experience in the energy, manufacturing and infrastructure sectors.
“He also has a track record in strategic leadership, operational transformation and large-scale project delivery.
“Umar studied Accounting at Bayero University and is an alumnus of Harvard Business School,” the statement read.
