*God-Complex and Sycofancy
By Tola Adeniyi
I wanted to wear this piece “primitive politics and Sicofania”, given the way and the way in particular the Nigerian politicians, indeed, African politicians, and universal political interior have raised politics and his practice to his head. Politics should be a means of looking for and receiving power from the components and, in return, give a service for the collective asset. But that’s no longer like that. Politics is like collecting power from the people of Hook or Crook and use that power to transform components into a game for dinner and nauseating self-exaltation. And worse, transform the components into servants, servants and slaves.
Politicians go further to frighten, humiliate, suppress, oppress and victimize anyone of their voters who have courage and bowels to challenge their authoritarianism. And they do all this in the most primitive, raw and uncivilized way while using a cotterie of fawners like praise! Unfortunately and deplorable, these components are actually their employers who pay their salaries, wages and emoluments!
Now I have chosen the “Complex of God and the Sicophaneness” because at the root of the crime and inconceivable selfishness, the greed and the ability of politicians and the main owners of political offices is a conviction of inviolability and invincibility. These owners of political offices at the top of the scale are considered mini-god! And they are made by the pitiful fawner and by the singers of praise they love at their feet.
I remember writing several articles and having made several statements on television and radio channels by complaining and condemning the role that the Nigerians had played and continued to play in the accumulation to make their pond God “employed”.
I have not been able to find any sensitive logic for the psychological, sociological or traditional cause that makes people otherwise educated, highly professional individuals who have had great success in their calls, respectable traditional sovereigns with great and elderly of the community that suddenly transform into politicians.
Why should an erudite scholar or university professor end up carrying short cases for some abandonments of secondary school, criminals known or well known simply because these riffraff managed to divert power and found themselves in positions of unwanted authorities? It is unfathomable and unforgivable.
These are the people who have lost self -esteem or personal dignity and a family identity otherwise honorable who constitutes most of the unfortunate beings who have now created in the owners of political offices and, unfortunately, insist that the others, those who still have the head of the neck should follow them in their blind servitude.
Nigeria is entering at another phase of their comic and usually tragic political electoral cycle that the prizes have invariably purchased the victory to the losers and blinds the actual winners with curious electoral losses. Ugly as it had always been, it has become indispensable that the few voices are the most around they must speak now and warn of the terrible consequences of the growing hatred and xenophobia campaign that is already dirtying the atmosphere with its assistant putrid poison.
The Nigerians are now fueled daily with propaganda focused on absolute falsehood; Falsification of the facts, falsification of history, falsification of identity and huge lies and deceptions.
At the root of all these Shenanigans there is the desire to create Machiavellian cult-hero of the best owners of political offices from the bottom of the scale, presidents of the local government to the speakers of the state assemblies, to the governors, to the leaders of the National Assembly and the President. Sicofanti and songwriters of selfish praise are currently in competition with each other to overcome each other to obtain a bite of mud funds that drip of blood!
In self-depressing efforts to make their paymaster seem like God, they abandon themselves to escape others who obviously are better or bigger than their own clay. Unfortunately, and it is here that the danger lies, the owners of political offices have been fed and clothes in costume at several levels of invincibility and incomparability.
We must all fight the heresy that had earned currency in the last decade. Heresy I have never known in the annals of Nigeria’s political history. That heresy is the nauseating affirmation and the propaganda that a politician has created another politician. This is the crust of the heresy of the complex of God that the Nigerians must stop and face once and for all.
It is not in our culture or tradition, to compete with the creator of this universe or allow or encourage anyone to do on our behalf. We know the consequences of playing God. All the books of history and religious literatures are flooded by the ignominious and ruinous extremities of all those who played or recited God. And since God, oloduming to the Yoruba and bearer of as many names as there are languages, is the only entity whose position is permanent and immutable, anyone who tries to compete with him in the face of an inevitable change.
The creator of the universe is the only creator creator of which he is a human species. Nobody should ever say that someone creates someone. Because it is in that autoconcette mentality that people can talk about someone who betrays a God! It is heresy, pure and simple. The beautiful religion of Islam seriously prohibits the complex of God. Each person is considered an Allah servant. It is a religion of absolute humility and submission. And the prophet Mohammed [Peace be unto Him] It remains eternally, the messenger of Allah. Religion prohibits creating images or worshiping human partner, the reason why there is no image of the prophet Mohammed [PBOH] anywhere in the world. The actors who play the role of the prophet are never shown!
In political spheres people who believe they want to serve their people present themselves and their manifesto to the people for evaluation, approval or disapproval. Acceptance or refusal. In a democracy that, among many definitions, is a guarantee for the freedom of association, the freedom of choice and the improvement of fundamental human rights, the children of the same parents, husbands and wives can compete against each other in an attempt to provide service to the community. The husband could say that he wants to provide roads while his wife says he wants to provide clothes for the masses. No offense. No name-Calls. No assassination of the character.
The Nigerians who can be too young to know, or are too old to remember should be enlightened that at the time of another political leader in this country he has ever claimed to have created anyone nor to be consumed by a feeling of betrayal because one or two members of his team have chosen introspection and independence instead of a sedan. The great Ahmadu Bello had Inuwa Wada, Tafawa Balewa, Alhaji Muhammadu Ribadu, Mallam Aminu Kano and others as colleagues from the Congress of northern people who became the congress of Nigerian people. He never repeated, he ever said he created any of them. Mallam Aminu Kano was his greatest resource due to the latter’s charisma and the huge followed between the poor, the Talakawa. Kano left beautiful to find his progressive union of the elements of the North and gave a strong competition to beautiful. But nobody has ever accused Kano of treason or betrayal.
Mazi Samuel Goomsu Ikoku ran against his father, the great dr. Azinna Alvan Ikoku, in an election [March 15, 1957] And he even defeated his father. They lived happily as a father and son. The eminent dott. Nnamdi Azikiwe has never said that he created dr. Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe or dr. Michael Okpara or Mazi Mbonu Ojike. He turned to them as “my colleagues”.
The OBAFEMI AWOLOWO head invited the best of the best to form a formidable team to constitute the best government that has ever been to Africa in its time, but has never claimed to have created the chief Adekunle Ajasin, the chief Samuel Akinintola, the bright journalist and lawyer, Capo Joseph Oduola Osuntokun, Dr Stephen Oluwole Awokoya, Professor, Professor Alukony Anthony, Capo Joseph Osuntokun, Dr Stephen Oluwole Awokor, Professor Anthony Anthony, Capo Joseph Osuntokun, Dr Stephen Oluwole Awokoya. He considered them colleagues and goods. They were fully distinguished. He needed them. Saw the quality in them. It was their leader, the team leader.
Hard Ladipo did not create AbitaDun Ladipo, Oya, a talented singer before Ladipo invited her to her theatrical group in 1963 and married her a year later. Demola Onibonokuta, Lere Paimo and others were established talents who became the collaborative collective that created hard ladipo, the myth.
In politics, except in Nigeria, where it was broken in a personal business/investment, people of the same ideological fold come together to drive, idea and countryside to win an election. It is teamwork with a team leader. All funds to manage the campaigns and put people in positions after winning an election belong to the “system”. Team members leave from time to time. Even apprentices go once they believe they can be alone and establish their business. The sky is large enough to make all birds fly.
The state of sparrows, one of the most glorious states of Nigeria, had been transformed into a political jungle due to this foolish rights and complex syndrome of God. Dr. Peter Odili “created” Rotimi Amechi, Amechi “created” Nyesom Wike, Wike “created” Fubara and would like their “creations”, their “investments” continue to produce dividends for the “local”! Wahala bursts! Only God knows when that beautiful state full of oil and his beautiful happy citizens ever would have ever known peace.
Nigeria must turn its back on those embers of hatred and xenophobia in the name of rough and selfish politics infused with the worst meanness and suffocation of the god-complex.
Let each of us are humble enough to look at the mirror: what do you see? Your ordinarity!
