President Bola Tinubu has conferred national honors to all 24 players and the technical team of 11 members of the national national team of Nigeria, the Super Falcons, following their historic victory at Africa Women’s Africa Cup of Nations of 2024 in Morocco.
At the presidential welcome held in their honor, President Tinubu has assigned every player and member of the technical crew the title of Officer of the Order of Niger (OON).
He also directed the assignment of an apartment with three bedrooms to each player and a member of the technical crew in the renewed program of housing of hope of the government.
The president approved a cash prize of the $ 100,000 Naira equivalent to each of the 24 players and $ 50,000 equivalent to each member of the technical team.
“You have inspired millions, in particular girls who now see proof that their dreams are valid and achievable.
“You also inspired me. And it is fantastic for a nation to have resources that are today’s hope, tomorrow and the next day. He represents that hope. You have turned on that hope. And we will continue to encourage you, the next generation and other generations after you,” said President Tinubu among the greetings of the Jubilation Team.
The president told the emotional moments of the final game, noting how the team’s performances raised the spirits of the nation and the Nigerians united by any social class.
“Your victory represents more than a sporting result. It is a triumph of courage, determination, discipline and consistency.
“Honestly, I didn’t want to watch the game. I didn’t want to have high blood pressure. But people entered and shot my TV on that channel. When it was 2-0, I offended very offended and restless.
“But I was still looking at the spirit of resilience, determination and courage. And after that penalty, my strength has been revoked and I believe that that of the nation has also been revoked.
“But you almost made me angry because your mother (the first lady) was in the kitchen, almost abandoning my dinner.
“He does not look at the game except when the girls play. And at the end of the final whistle, he was joy across the country,” he said.
The president assured the team of continuous support of his administration and the commitment for the development of sport, committing that the government would have further invested in the development of women’s football and youth talents across the country.
“Your story is a story of hope. And in this era of renewed hope, we celebrate you not only as champions of Africa, but as champions of the Nigerian dream.”
In a further appreciation show, the president of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), the governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, also announced a donation of ₦ 10 million to each of the players and members of the technical team on behalf of the 36 state governors.
First Lady, Senator Oltemi Tinubu, described Super Falcons as role -playing models and shining examples of courage and excellence.
He congratulated the team for their exceptional performance and the unwavering spirit, describing their journey as “a testimony of resilience, teamwork and determination”.
“You played with passion, confidence and an adamant belief in yourself, which is not over until it is over.
“The zeal you showed on the pitch was to say the least inspiring. You have never falter and remembered in the world because Nigeria remains a power in African women’s football.”
First Lady prayed for the continuous success of the team and shared a previous conversation with the president Tinubu on the bright future of the team as world champions.
“I told Mr. President this morning that you are going to win the World Cup and thought you were too ambitious. But Ajibade, the team’s captain, just detached, and is possible,” he said.
The captain of Super Falcons Rasheedat Ajibade said that the victory was for the team and for every Nigerian girl who dreams of reaching the greatness.
“Today, I find you in front of you not only like the captain of the Super Falcons, but like a proud daughter of Nigeria, bringing dreams, resilience and spirit of our great nation,” he said.
“On behalf of my teammates, coaches and technical staff, I express our sincere gratitude for this warm welcome and the unshakable belief that you have shown in us.”
Underlining the meaning of their tenth title Wafcon, said the team captain:
“This victory is not just a trophy. It is a testimony of the inflexible spirit of Nigeria. It is a celebration of every girl in our villages, cities and cities that dares to dream … This tenth title is for you, Mr. President, for the Nigerians, for the super hawks and for every child who believes and dreams of being on this stage one day.”
Ajibade asked for the continuous support from the government and the parties concerned to raise the global position of Nigeria in women’s football.
The president of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, described the victory of the team as a symbol of unity, inspiration and triumph of belief, courage and excellence.
Dikko has credited the administration of President Tinubu to invest in the development of sport and in the empowerment of women.
“The triumph of Super Falcons is a result of your unshakable support for sport and women. You have always believed that sports can unite, heal us and lift our spirits as one of the main drivers of the economy. And today, we saw it happen,” he said.
He praised First Lady, Senator Oltemi Tinubu, for his “constant support for our women in sport”.
“This victory goes beyond sport. It is a powerful symbol of our national unity and cohesion. In those 90 minutes, the Nigerians from all over the world from the north, south, est and west have retained their breath, prayed together, cheered the team and finally celebrated together.
“This is the power of sport, and in fact the power of our women in sport,” he said.
