Notorious bandit kingpin Bello Turji has challenged the Nigerian military to come after him, saying he and his gang are not afraid of death.
Turji, who has been very vocal on social media in recent weeks, said in a trending video posted on X that he and his followers would not have taken up arms in the first place if they were afraid of dying.
In the video, the bandit leader, who was dressed in military uniform flanked by his two lieutenants, also threatened the federal government for sending the Chief of Staff to Sokoto State allegedly to fight his group.
Turji was reacting to President Bola Tinubu’s order on Tuesday, ordering the Minister of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Musa and other top military officials to relocate to the state as a result of the renewed insurgency in the North West region, while Musa has also expressed the military’s readiness to lead an attack on Turji and other bandits.
Speaking in Hausa,
Turji said, among other things:
“If they were afraid of death, we wouldn’t have taken up arms in the first place, stop sending the Army Chiefs after us.

“We are not afraid of death. We are waiting for you to come after us. You have killed our Fulani brothers and no one has done anything. You have sent soldiers and police after us but we are ready to face you now.
“We have not heard of the Nigerian army attacking any community in Zamfara State because a Fulani man was killed. However, if a Hausa man is killed, the army will go to the community and burn it.
“You kill our brothers and sisters and no one talks about it. You give money to our brothers and sisters who live in the city and they keep quiet about what is happening. You kill and steal our livestock and you want us to keep quiet?
“Now that we have weapons, whatever you do, we will not stop fighting you unless you stop killing our brothers before we can sit down for dialogue. That is the only condition.”
He also had strong words for the farmers.
“Hey farmers, I warn you, because you have reported us to the military, I emphasize, the harvest you planted this season is not yours. Your farmland now belongs to us.”
