Wike-led PDP named Senator Onoh as its 2027 presidential candidate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, confirmed former member of the National Assembly, Senator. Sandy Onor, as the consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

Chairman of the PDP 2026 Presidential Primary Election Committee, Samuel Ortom, announced the results of the party’s primary elections at the party’s national secretariat on Tuesday in Abuja.

Ortom said Onor, who is the only candidate in the party, emerged through a consensus agreement.

He said: “We have worked day and night with 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to ensure that we reach a consensus,” he said.

Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed, noted that the party has only one candidate, and expressed confidence that the PDP will make a significant impact in the 2027 elections.

In his acceptance speech, Onor promised to run for president with courage and seriousness.

“I take this responsibility very seriously. I will fly the PDP flag with energy, courage, competence and intellectual depth. I will do so with a pan-Nigerian disposition in everything I do.

“The people of this country will be proud because we have a PDP that is ready to work well. If yesterday we were great, tomorrow we will be much greater.

“Let me assure you that I will do justice. I will also fear God in everything I will do with you.

“Let me assure you that we are here on serious business. We have listened to the longings and aspirations of the Nigerian people and we are ready to make them a reality,” he added.

Onor, who stated that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) would not stand the test of time, described the PDP as the only formidable opposition to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

“If you are looking for a party that can compete with the ruling APC, that party is the PDP,” he said.
