Wike vowed to withdraw documents from hotels, event centers used by political parties without INEC’s knowledge

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has warned owners of hotels and event centers in Abuja not to give their space to political parties that are not recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He threatened to disenfranchise event centers, hotels and other public buildings that do not comply with this directive, offering their facilities for use by illegal organizations.

The warning was contained in a statement issued on Friday by Lere Olayinka, Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media.

According to him, the allocation of land in the FCT is solely to carry out lawful activities, and “subsequently, the ownership documents of any event center, hotel or public building used for the gathering of illegal organizations will be revoked.”

He helped “in view of the need to further ensure the security of lives and property in the FCT and sustain the efforts of security agencies in this regard, the use of the Event Center

s, Hotels and other public buildings will now be strictly monitored.

“This aims to prevent illegal organizations from taking advantage of them to hold meetings that could disturb the peace of the nation’s capital.

“Therefore, owners of these facilities are urged to consider the legality of organizations wishing to use these facilities and their purposes before releasing them.

“For example, in this political season, Event Center and Hotel owners in particular must ensure that they only deal with leaders of political parties recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in relation to the use of their facilities, and proper records of transactions must be kept.

“Failure to comply with this directive will result in the revocation of ownership documents for the property.”
