Zulum congratulates NAN’s first female Editor-in-Chief, Hadiza Mohammed-Aliyu

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has congratulated Hajiya Hadiza Mohammed-Aliyu on her appointment as the magazine’s first female Editor-in-Chief News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

This was contained in a statement by Zulum’s Special Adviser on Media, Mr Dauda Iliya, on Friday in Maiduguri.

Zulum described Mohammed-Aliyu, who hails from Borno State, as a “disciplined, committed and highly experienced career editor” who has served NAN for 34 years.

He said the appointment of Mohammed-Aliyu marked a significant milestone for the agency and the profession of journalism in Nigeria.

“On behalf of the government and people of Borno State, I wish to congratulate Hadiza Mohammed-Aliyu on her appointment as the first female Editor-in-Chief of the News Agency of Nigeria.

“I received with great excitement the news of your appointment as head of the entire editorial team of more than 500 editors and journalists spread across the Agency’s offices nationwide and across its 18 districts,” Zulum said.

The governor urged the new Editor-in-Chief to uphold the editorial standards that have earned NAN the reputation as a reliable source of credible news.

He also tasked her with strengthening the agency’s role in countering false information, misinformation, disinformation and hate speech, “particularly as the country approaches the election campaign period.”

Aliyu, a graduate of Mass Communication from the University of Maiduguri, becomes the first woman to head NAN’s editorial team since the agency was founded more than four decades ago.

Zulum wished her a successful tenure and urged her to manage the agency’s affairs with professionalism and integrity. (NAN)
