Ahead of the 2027 general elections, a philanthropist, Honorable Matthew Moses popularly known as Dr. Matt, has assured that if he emerges as the member representing Chikun constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly under the National Democratic Party (NDC), it will be an all-round blessing to his constituents.
He made the promise on Tuesday during a special dinner held in his honor at Neat Place in Kaduna.
“We deserve better. We deserve a community where hard work meets opportunity and where every citizen can sleep at night knowing that their home, their neighborhood and their future are safe.
“My vision for our local government centers on three key pillars: energy, economic revitalization, community safety and infrastructure for growth,” he said.
Constant power supply guaranteed
On energy, he described it as the first trigger for development, adding: “I am committed to ensuring that we have as many (Transformers) power plants as possible for the people in Chikun, which will help businesses thrive and will also encourage investors in the area. I will invest in it.”
Outpouring of joy, appreciation
While welcoming guests to his declaration of intention to represent the good people of Chikun LGA in the Kaduna State House of Assembly, he said it was historic.
“No words of appreciation can convey my joy in seeing all of you here for my sake, and I hope we will remember this day for the effect it will have on Chikun local government.
“I’m running because I believe the ultimate measure of our community’s success is not just what we’re doing today, but the strength of the foundation we’re building for tomorrow. Right now, those foundations are cracking.
“Too many of our neighbors are struggling to find stable work, and too many families feel that the sense of security we once took for granted is slipping away,” he said.
Economic boom as top priority
According to him, as part of his strategies, economic revitalization will be one of his top priorities.
“We can’t wait for prosperity to find us; we must create the conditions that make this district a magnet for investment.
“I will push for tax credits and grants specifically designed for local small and medium-sized businesses and outside companies that are committed to hiring locally.
“I will bridge the gap between our workforce and the modern economy by partnering with local trade schools and universities to provide certificate programs in high-demand fields such as technology, green energy and advanced manufacturing.
“I will support the creation of a municipal incubator space where local entrepreneurs can access affordable office space, mentorship and administrative support to launch their ideas,” he assured.
Safety as the main objective
On restoring security in Chikun, he described security as a fundamental right.
“Economic development cannot take root in a place where people don’t feel safe.
“Security is a fundamental right and is the prerequisite for all other forms of progress,” he underlined.
Therefore, he said community policing will be encouraged.
“I will promote a policing model that emphasizes trust and transparency, ensuring our officers are integrated into the context
neighborhoods that serve, rather than isolate them,” he stressed.
Ensure youth involvement
Hon Matt also explained the importance of youth engagement programs to end restlessness
“Safety begins with prevention. I will support after-school programs, youth mentoring and summer job initiatives to provide our youth with positive outlets and clear paths to adulthood,” he said.
On the importance of revitalizing commercial corridors, he said investment would be made in the aesthetic and functional improvements of main streets – better lighting, improved walkability and revitalized shopfronts – to make the local government area a place where people want to spend time and money.
Commitment to voters
On his commitment to voters, the Hon. Matt said that with their support, much will be achieved through sharing collective responsibilities.
“I am not here to offer empty promises or partisan arguments. I am here to offer a pragmatic, results-oriented partnership. I know that the challenges we face were not created overnight and will not be solved by a single individual alone, but they require a representative who listens, who works across party lines, and who understands that the only agenda that matters is yours.
“This is your Chikun. Together, we will turn the page on stagnation and write a new chapter of economic vitality and lasting security.
“Join me in building a future where our families can thrive and our community can finally reach its full potential,” he said.
