More clashes between Edo govt and APC over rice looting by #EndBadGovernance protesters

The Edo State government has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of planning to foment unrest in the state.

Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, stated this at a press conference on Wednesday in Benin City.

The commissioner alleged that the APC had been instigating the public that the Federal Government had given truckloads of rice to state governments for the people but the rice was now in the hands of some PDP leaders.

Nehikhare said the state government knew nothing about the rice looted by protesters from a godown on August 1.

The Edo state government and the APC also clashed over rice looting last week.

“Our findings reveal that the APC is planning to instigate civil unrest and cause chaos under the guise of riots and protests to disrupt the peace and stability of the country.

“APC is trying to divert attention from the weaknesses of its candidates and stall for time to avoid meaningful debate and engagement with the people,” he said.

Nehikhare said the government had informed the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) of the plan.

However, the APC Campaign Council Publicity Director in the state, Orobosa Omo-Ojo, denied the allegations.

He said Governor Godwin Obaseki was haunted by the ghost of the #EndBadGovernance protests he allegedly sponsored in the state.

Omo-Ojo said the allegedly sponsored protests led to the discovery of federal government bailout funds hidden in the house of a PDP leader in Benin.

“The fear of losing all the hidden grains has led to Obaseki’s sudden hatred for the protest organisers whom he now calls criminals and thugs,” the APC chieftain added.

He urged Edo residents to reject the PDP and its candidate in the September 21 election, alleging that Asue Ighodalo would be worse than Obaseki if elected.
