Following his arrest and interrogation on charges of forgery and impersonation, the Nigerian Police have released former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, on bail.
The former governor was earlier arrested at a hotel in Abuja after he refused a police invitation.
Okorocha, who represents Imo West Senatorial District in the Senate, was released after about an hour of questioning.
Army Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, confirmed the arrest and later released him, adding that the former governor had been directed to return to Army Headquarters on Tuesday for further questioning.
Police said an investigation into the allegations was ongoing but did not reveal details of the alleged offence.
He was initially invited to appear at Army Headquarters on September 2, but his appointment was rescheduled to September 8 following a request from his lawyer.
Okorocha reportedly failed to honor the rescheduled invitation, triggering the latest police action.
Police have also reportedly obtained a court order to compel his presence for questioning.
