Spain’s Euro 2024 winner Mikel Merino has completed his medical and is almost ready to become an Arsenal player.
This was revealed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano in X.
βMikel Merino has completed his medical as a new Arsenal player and the clubs have exchanged documents and the deal is closed,β Romano wrote.
β32 million euros fixed fee, 5 million euros in extras and a contract until June 2028 with the option for one more season.β
Merino had entered the final year of his contract at Real Sociedad and was understood to be interested in joining Arsenal.
He played in all of Spain’s games as they won Euro 2024, including scoring the 119th-minute winner in the quarter-finals against hosts Germany.
He joined Real Sociedad from Newcastle six years ago and has made 242 appearances for the club, helping them win the Copa del Rey in 2020.
He spent just one season at Newcastle under Rafael Benitez and started just 14 Premier League games.
Merino came through the ranks at Osasuna before joining Borussia Dortmund in 2016, where he won the DFB-Pokal under Thomas Tuchel.
