Tella shines brightly in Leverkusen’s narrow DFB Pokal win – Latest Nigeria Sports News

Nathan Tella played a key role for Bayer Leverkusen as they began the defence of their DFB Pokal title with a narrow win over Carl Zeiss Jena at Ernst-Abbe-Sportfeld on Wednesday.

Tella started and was on the field for 69 minutes before being substituted.

The Nigerian international midfielder contributed significantly, winning three duels, creating three goal-scoring opportunities and taking two shots on target.

Jonas Hofmann secured victory for Leverkusen with the only goal of the match.

Meanwhile, Tella’s compatriot Victor Boniface was absent from the match due to suspension.

The striker was given a one-match ban after making an obscene gesture towards his opponents following the Super Cup victory against Stuttgart.
