Wike-led Bayelsa PDP adopts Tinubu as Rainbow Coalition presidential candidate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bayelsa State faction, led by FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has adopted President Bola Tinubu as the Rainbow Coalition candidate for the 2027 presidential elections.

The coalition, led by the PDP in the state, also unveiled strategies to mobilize support for Tinubu and ensure victory for PDP candidates contesting the National and State Assembly seats.

The decisions were taken during the 100th meeting of the party’s expanded State Executive Committee (SEC) in Yenagoa on Thursday.

Bayelsa PDP Chairman George Turnah has said the coalition will intensify grassroots mobilization to secure electoral support for its preferred candidates.

Turnah called on the Bayelsa government to account for public funds allegedly spent on the state’s 30th anniversary celebration.

He said the government should publish a detailed breakdown of spending and identify approved budget provisions authorizing the spending.

The PDP president said the anniversary represents a significant milestone but should not justify excessive spending in a context of economic hardship and inadequate public services.

He cited growing poverty, high transportation costs, unaffordable housing, poor health facilities and unreliable public water supplies as concerns requiring urgent attention.

Turnah urged the Bayelsa House of Assembly to strengthen oversight of public expenditure and ensure accountability in the management of state resources.

On health care, he questioned the impact of a $400,000 health care grant and asked for verifiable information on the projects and services funded through it.

He also called for greater investments in education, affordable housing, mass transportation and reliable public services to improve residents’ living conditions.

Turnah said the PDP will continue to demand transparency and advocate for policies that address poverty, unemployment and underdevelopment in the state.

He said Bayelsa residents deserve responsible governance, improved public services and inclusive development.
