NAF kills terrorist leader and five members in Kaduna, seizes weapons

Special Forces of the 413 Force Protection Group of the Nigerian Air Force, on Saturday, engaged in a gun battle with notorious terrorist kingpin, Mustapha Abdullahi, and five of his gang members along Sabon-Birni Road in Kaduna. All six terrorists were killed in the operation.

Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, reported on Sunday that the terrorists were on their way to attack and kidnap civilians in a nearby community when the clashes broke out.

“Following an intelligence report received on 31st August 2024 that a notorious terrorist kingpin, Mustapha Abdullahi, and 5 members of his group were sighted near Sabon Gida Forest along Sabon Birni Road in Igabi Local Government Area (LGA), Kaduna State with possible intention to kidnap, injure or kill innocent civilians, a Special Forces team from 413 Force Protection Group of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) was dispatched to comb the location,” Gabkwet said.

He added, “After making contact with the terrorists who were riding motorbikes, when they saw the Special Forces, the terrorists immediately opened fire and were responded to with very strong firepower by the troops, so that all the terrorists were successfully eliminated.”

Items seized included five machine guns, one locally assembled light machine gun, and live ammunition. Other items seized included various amulets, lighters, SIM cards, and mobile phone casings.

Gabkwet noted that efforts to combat crime in Igabi, Birnin Gwari and surrounding areas were ongoing. He commended the troops for their performance and urged them to continue their efforts to protect lives and property.
