Four killed in canoe accident in Borno

At least four people died in a canoe accident in Dikwa, Borno State, on Monday.

State police spokesman Nahum Daso said in a statement on Tuesday that the canoe sank in floodwaters at Bakassi community along Maiduguri Road, Dikwa, at about 4:00 p.m. on Monday.

He said the victim was a woman.

The spokesman said the victims were Ya Mallum Shettima, Maimuna Akura, Umira Alhaji Bulama and Yagana Bulama Kawu.

“In connection with this tragic incident, the West Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Commissioner CP ML Yusufu expressed his deepest condolences and appealed to the public, especially those in flood-affected areas, to always be careful during the emergency response period and immediately report any emergency or disaster to the following contact numbers: 08068075581, 0802343293,” added Daso.
