Following the controversy over the composition of the members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 elections, the party expanded the body, and brought in other stakeholders from within and outside the APC.
Among those newly inducted into the council are Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT); Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun State; and Chukwuma Soludo, governor of Anambra State, all members of other political parties.
In the new list to be unveiled by President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja on Wednesday, Wike was appointed as the party’s campaign coordinator in Rivers and the FCT.
Soludo was appointed as Anambra coordinator, while Adeleke was appointed as Osun coordinator. Adegboyega Oyetola, minister of maritime affairs and blue economy, was appointed as deputy national coordinator I for stakeholder mobilization in the southwest region.
Wike is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Soludo was re-elected for a second term in November 2025 on the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) platform, while Adeleke won his re-election on August 16 under the Accord.
APC initially released the list on August 22, with Abdulaziz Yari, former governor of Zamfara, as director general; interim Senate President Godswill Akpabio; Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives; and Mai Mala Buni, governor of Yobe; was appointed deputy director general.
However, in the new list, Akpabio, Abbas and Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq were appointed as Deputy Chairman I, II and III respectively, while Buni became Deputy Director General I for the northern region.
Barau Jibrin, Deputy Chair of the Senate who was previously Deputy Director General III for the Northern Region on the first list, became Deputy Director General II for the Region.
Opeyemi Bamidele, chairman of the senate, and Benjamin Kalu, deputy chairman of the house of representatives, were appointed as deputy directors general I and II for the southern region, respectively.
An important difference in the new list is the appointment of 32 APC governors as campaign coordinators in their respective states, while Sharafadeen Alli, the party’s gubernatorial candidate in Oyo, was appointed as state coordinator.
For Bauchi, Mohammed Abubakar, APC governorship candidate in the state, was appointed as campaign coordinator, while Chijioke Chukwu, the party’s flag bearer in Abia, was appointed as coordinator in the state.
Unlike the first list, the new list contains 14 advisers, including Bisi Akande, Segun Osoba, George Akume, secretary to the government of the federation; Florence Ita-Giwa, former Cross-River southern senator; Ibikunle Amosun, former governor of Ogun; Iyiola Omisore, former APC national secretary; and Wale Edun, among others, former Coordinating Minister for the Economy.
On August 19, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially opened the presidential and national assembly election campaign.
The campaign period runs until January 14, 2027, according to INEC’s revised schedule.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Peter Obi, the flag bearer of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), are among the main contenders in the 2027 presidential election alongside Tinubu.
