The former Super Eagles coach, Salisu Yusuf, reacts as his own goal, condemns Nasarawa United to the first defeat under his mandate

The former Super Eagles coach, Salisu Yusuf, has reacted to Nasarawa United’s first defeat under his administration after his own goal gave Kwara United a 1-0 victory on Wednesday.

Accessory 31 of the day of the 2024/2025 NPFL season, played at the Rasheed Yekini Sports Complex in Ilorin, saw Emeka Onyema score a goal in the 64th minute while trying to clear the effort of Abayomi Lawal. It was a disappointing exit for the children of Lafia, which finished the derby of the northern center with ten men after Utake Emmanuel received a second yellow card, reducing the strength of the equipment in the field.

Reacting to the intense meeting, coach Salisu Yusuf said: “We played well and managed to contain the strengths of Kwara United. Unfortunately, we lost the focus at a crucial moment.

“The objective itself resulted from an out of place authorization when we lost possession in the midfield. At such moments, it requires intelligence and composure to make the right decision, but unfortunately, the defender could not prevent the ball from entering.

“The team worked well and gave our opponents a difficult challenge. We should have won this game.

“This is my first defeat since I was responsible for the club. I have been working with the players available to navigate the remaining accessories, and I must say that they have great potential.

“Despite the reverse, we chose to focus on the positive aspects of today’s game and use this as a motivation to regroup and become stronger in our next two games at home.”

Despite the disappointing result, solid miners remain in the highest NPFL category, sitting in the 16th place with 36 points.

They will seek to recover when they organize games at consecutive house at the stadium of the city of Lafia, against Akwa United on Sunday, April 6 and Plateau United on Sunday, April 13, 2025.
