Oyo Police investigate fatal attack on Oriyomi Hamzat’s welcome party in Ibadan
From our journalist
Ibadan (Core Reporters) – The Oyo State Police Command has launched an investigation into an attack on a group of people welcoming Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat in Ibadan, which left one person dead.
The incident occurred shortly after the group left Molete for Iwo Road, where Agidigbo’s office is located, following an attack allegedly carried out by suspected hoodlums.
According to a report filed at a police station on October 14, 2026 by Kehinde Samuel Ibikunle, one of the victims, identified as Azeez Tajudeen, 40, suffered a serious injury to his right eye during the attack.
Tajudeen, a native of Oke Amu in Otesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, was immediately rushed for medical treatment before he was taken to the State Hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan, where he was examined and confirmed dead.
His remains have since been deposited in the hospital morgue.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, ordered that the case be transferred to the Monitoring Unit of the command for a thorough and discreet investigation into the circumstances of the attack.
Police said the aim of the investigation was to identify and arrest those responsible for the incident and ensure they were brought to justice.
The Command also underlined the need for adequate security coordination in view of public rallies and processions.
He accordingly urged aspiring politicians, party leaders and event organizers to formally notify the police at least 48 hours before any planned procession or rally to allow for adequate security and prevent breaches of the public peace.
The police also appealed to the public to provide credible information that could help the investigation to come forward and cooperate with investigators.
Residents requiring assistance from the police can contact the Oyo State Call Response Center on toll-free line 615 or the Command Control Room on 08081768614 and 07055495413.
