The Kogi State Government has embarked on the rehabilitation of the Lokoja major water works as part of its efforts to end the acute shortage of drinking water supply in the state capital.
Government on Tuesday handed over the Greater Lokoja Water Works to Gamji Nigeria Company Limited, for emergency electromechanical rehabilitation, in a move to address the persistent water crisis in the Lokoja metropolis
The delivery ceremony was carried out by the Commissioner of Water Resources, Eng. Yahaya Farouk.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Commissioner revealed that Governor Ahmed Ododo approved the emergency repairs and awarded the contract to the indigenous company Gamji Nigeria Company Limited.
Farouk described Gamji Nigeria Company Limited as a reputable company with a proven track record in rehabilitating major water systems across the country.
The commissioner directed the contractor to complete the project within four months to restore drinking water supply to residents of the state capital.

According to him, the people have remained patient despite the challenges, while the governor has shown commitment to addressing their needs through the approval of the emergency rehabilitation project.
Farouk said the four-month completion deadline was December 24, 2026, expressing optimism that the lift station would be operational by midnight that day to allow water to be tested and pumped into various reservoirs within Lokoja
He also urged the management of Lokoja Water Corporation to fully cooperate with the contractor to ensure smooth execution and timely completion of the project.
