Tinubu recalled how he joked to threaten to fire Wike on political interests

Football President Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday jokingly warned the Federal Capital Minister (FCT), Nyesom Wike, that he would lose his job if his policy was not in harmony with the political interests of the Congress of All Progressive (APC).

The President made a statement at the president’s villa in Abuja when Wike led the leading FCT population delegation with Sallah’s respect to mark the end of Ramadan fasting and Eid al -Fitr celebrations.

Tinubu, who remembers interaction with Wike, said the Minister had requested the elimination of FCT from Treasury Single Account (TSA) to enable greater financial flexibility for infrastructure development.

He said: “I remember the day of pleasant Wike coming to me and said, ‘Please, take us out of the problem of a single Treasury account (TSA) so that I can do more work and reach more.”

The President said he questioned how such a step would benefit the opportunity for the APC selection at FCT.

“I threw my political guide: ‘Will it give me an opportunity for my party (APC) to win the election at FCT?'” Tinubu said.

The President added that he reminded Wike of his political background as a member of the Democratic Party (PDP) opposition.

“I said, ‘I know where you came from, your party or my party. If this is too profitable for you, you will lose your job.’ Then he said, ‘Okay, we finished it, Oga,’ “said Tinubu, withdrawing the laughter from the meeting.

Apart from a light exchange, Tinubu praised Wike for his performance as a minister, especially in the fields of infrastructure, health, and education.

“He came with many good ideas to free bureaucracy, bring thinking in the future, progressively to the government, and provide opportunities for many people who will be hampered by property rights,” the President said.

He registered the main achievement under the leadership of Wike to include the revitalization of the residence of the Vice President, which had been abandoned for years, rehabilitation of health centers and improvements in health care services for the FCT population, and improved school infrastructure and improvement of teacher welfare programs, among others.
