Police in Ondo clarified the 7 -year -old Remi Tinubu convoy report in Akure

The Ondo State Police Command has denied a report that shows that a vehicle from the convoy of Nigerian First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is responsible for the tragic death of a young girl in Akure on Thursday.

The First Lady in the Capital of the State for the launch of the most recent hope initiative health program, where he distributed 10,000 professional kits, including crocodiles and scrubs, to midwives in all southwest zones.

An online publication accused that a car from his conversion crashed and killed a nine-year-old girl in the Oba-Ile area in Akure.

However, in a statement issued by police public relations officers, DSP Olufunmilayo Odunlami-its domiss, the order illustrates the report as “False and Misleading.”

“Eyewitness accounts and initial investigations conducted by the Command confirmed that the incident was caused by a hit-and-run driver who operates a white Lexus vehicle that is not registered by any vehicle related to the convoy of the First Lady,” the statement said.

Odunlami-his domiss further explained that a witness, who was at the scene, immediately chased the vehicle that escaped on a motorcycle. Some observers and the victims’ parents themselves reinforce this account, asserting that the convoy of the First Lady was not involved.

The police also corrected the wrong information in the initial report on the age of the victim. Contrary to the claim that the girl was nine years old, her parents confirmed that she was seven years old.

“This inaccuracy further underlines the lack of respect for publication of the truth, especially in such sensitive matters,” the spokesman added.

In an empathy show, Ondo State Police Commissioner personally visited a mourning family, expressed his condolences and promised a comprehensive and transparent investigation to bring the perpetrators to the court.

“There is no convoy point of the First Lady involved in this tragedy,” Odunlami-its domiss reiterated, calling for media outlets to carry out responsibilities and verify facts before spreading information that can inflame public sentiments or feces reputation.
