Tinubu Ball President on Thursday urged the new Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Board to consolidate the benefits of the ongoing economic reform.
The President, according to a statement issued by a special advisor on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made a call to the inauguration of the NNPC Limited Council at the State House, Abuja.
Tinubu said he chose a board member with difficulty to ensure quality leadership.
The President appointed the council on April 2.
He said: “When I start searching, it takes a few moments to produce the type of character you represent. You represent the best in this industry, and I have set a goal for you.
“You have a reputation, resource and experience to help the country. This is a call to be tasked with you.
“I’m sure you are the best that this industry can offer.”
The president said the ongoing economic reform had resulted in results, with local and international recognition.
“Nigeria has become age. Now more competitive and turn in the corner, and with your highly respected team, I can relax and attend other problems.
“Thank you for accepting the opportunity to serve your dear country and our beloved country,” he added.
Tinubu told the council that volatility in the world economy would need to find solutions inward, and Nigeria would depend on the company’s repositioning.
“Explore all the options for the win-win situation for Nigeria. I am very proud of you and believe you will succeed,” President Tinubu concluded.
The Minister of State, Oil, Mr. Heineken Lokpobiri, thanked the President for gathering the team he described as the best in Africa.
“I got a call from all over Africa, my colleagues at OPEC, said that if this team did not give, Nigeria had to import men from other planets to come and send the oil and gas sector in Nigeria,” he said.
The Chairperson of the Council, Ahmadu Kira, thanked the President for the opportunity to serve the country.
He said the new council would uphold the highest standards of leadership, courage, and integrity in fulfilling the president’s mandate.
NNPC Limited Group Chief Executive Officer, Bashir Ojulari, said the team had met with industrial stakeholders to review operations and business relations.
“We have held several meetings, and we have set directions with the mandate that you have given us. We have started the journey with a two -week meeting with stakeholders,” he said.
