National Youth Leader Alliance Grand All Progressives (APGA), Bpk. EZE -Eonyebuchi Chukwu, on Friday urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to bring down his 2027 President’s ambitions.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Chukwu urged Atiku to support a credible young candidate or allowing the President of Bola Tinubu to complete the second term.
He advised the former Vice President to prioritize the transfer of political leadership to the younger generation, saying it was time for Nigerian elders to support the emergence of young and visionary leaders.
He said: “Instead of aspirating to run again in 2027, Atiku must gather his political allies to support a credible young Nigerian young man. It’s time to restore power to young people.”
Chukwu, who remembered his past support for the former president, noted that he spent resources in 2019 while serving as the organizer of Atikunation in the Federal Capital Region (FCT), driven by the hope that Atiku would fight for youth empowerment.
He added: “Atiku challenged Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, Muhammadu Buhari in 2019, and Tinubu in 2023. Now he wants to fight again in 2027. Is he the only one who is suitable to become president?
He said that every political discourse that excludes youth representatives must be rejected by Nigerian youth, emphasizing that the focus must be on the renewal of leadership and generation transition.
Chukwu argues that if Atiku insists to fight at his age, it will be more pragmatic to support President Tinubu for the second term, as long as he is committed to handing over to a young leader under 50.
He quoted an example of a former President Muhammadu Buhari, who fought four times before securing victory in 2015 but, in his view, returning the country more than a decade during his term of office.
Chukwu said that Nigerian youth would support Tinubu or any leader who made a binding commitment to facilitate changes in generations in leadership in 2031.
