Forestry group to synergize with Edo Forestry Commission

The executive president of the Edo State Forestry Commission, Hon Valentine Owamagbe Asuen, Thursday, in his office in Benin City, received the forest parties of the state of Edo (Foses), during a courtesy visit.

Oalition has declared its desire to collaborate with the Commission, in its statutory mandate to protect and preserve forests and its related resources.

He also engaged support for the Commission to carry out his activities in the State.

Foses was conducted by Mallam Alasa H. Ikhelowa, a remarkable expert in environmentalist and development, as president of the group, and his partner Tony Erha, journalist and first -line environmental activist and coalition secretary.

Other members of the group, which were present during the meeting, included prof. Gideon U. Emenlue, professor of Silviciculture and Wild Fauna, of the University of Benin and Mr. Frederick Okoloise, a retirement guardian from the State Silviciculture Department.

Mallam Ikhelowa, who was a permanent secretary in the Ministry of the State Environment, declared that Foses was eager to collaborate in the areas to give the necessary forest competence, mobilization of a wider range of interested parties and to help in the fundraising and with a throne of local and international supporters for the activities of the Commission.

While further refers to a text prepared for the visit, Ikhelowa suggested that the Commission would need to revisit and expand by the controversial bill, which presumably established the Commission, to replace the 1968 silviculture law, which further suggests that there are parts of the modified bill that were anti-demi and could hinder the soft work of the Commission Commission Commission

The group, among other things, also asked for the establishment of a forest trusted fund, the immediate evaluation of the existing forest reserves, the reafforestation of forest reserves, the revocation of the vast terrestrial forest areas that were unduly sold by previous state governments, to the companies of single -collected plantations etc.; Effective protection by the state government for the Benin Ogba zoo and the Natural Park (Benzopa), the support of the state government for the Okomu National Park and the establishment of additional forest areas protected for the state.

Hon Asuen expressed the optimism of working in hand with the group.

He said he was obviously composed of expert professionals and reliable men and women, who could help reach his commission laudable mandate, as driven by the Governor of the State, Senator on Monday Okpebhale.

While it concerns the positions made by the group as useful and that his commission would have examined them, since he also works with other parties interested for the same effects, he urged Foses to use his belonging and the public to falsify the good work of his commission, adding that his offers are his offers for “reforestation of Edo forests and carrying out trees system exercises, also the reorientation of people, who are his offers.

Foses is a coalition of nature conservation groups, non -governmental organizations (NGOs), environmentalists, professional bodies, farmers, logger, terrestrial users, groups of young people and genres, who were against the land, undue deforestation and sustenance destruction, which had put them against the immediate government of the state.
