The NDC does not recognize the Obi/Kwankwaso movement’s presidential campaign board, support groups warn

The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has disbanded the Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, formed by the OK Movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party also warned support groups not to weaken or limit the party, although the party said it appreciated their support and welcomed more support groups who identify with its mission.

The National Chairman of the party, Cleopas Moses, stated this in a statement issued on Saturday confirming, that the announcement made by one John Ugulu was invalid and did not originate from the party.

According to him, in the future, no individual or group has the authority to announce, form or publish any campaign structure or organ on behalf of the party without the approval of the party’s National Working Committee, NWC.

The statement read: “The leadership of our party, the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, notes with concern the publications made by John Ugulu, who announced the Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, under the guise of the OK Movement.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the party wishes to state unequivocally as follows: The party hereby dissociates itself completely from the PCC’s announcement of the OK Movement. It did not originate from the party and should be ignored by the public and the media.

“All party legislative candidates must appreciate that they are not running as individual candidates. They are party products and remain subject to party authority and discipline. Therefore, only the party leadership can form and announce the PCC.

“No member, candidate or support group should, under any guise, weaken the party or limit the party. The party recognizes and highly values ​​the contributions of all support groups and encourages their continued support. We welcome more support groups who identify with our mission to save Nigeria.

“While the party will continue to work collaboratively with all support groups, such groups should not see themselves as alternative party structures or parallel party organs.”
