Lamido’s statements on the distortion of the role of 12 June of Tinubu – Presidency

The presidency on Sunday denied the statements of the former governor of the state of Jigawa Sule Lamido on the role of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the cancellation of the presidential elections of 12 June 1993.

The clarification was made in a statement entitled “Establish the record: the role of President Tinubu in the fight of 12 June” and issued by the President’s Special Consultant for information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

… the words of Lamido

While showing up in Arise Television on Saturday, Lamido said that Tinubu supported the cancellation of the most historical elections in Nigeria.

According to him, Tinubu, who was senator of the Social Democratic Party platform (SDP) during the elections, was “a great supporter” of the former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, who canceled the survey.

Lamido had said: “Fortunately, we were all alive. We were all there and participating in that deal of political history. I was in the middle. Tinubu became relevant and evident after Abbacha took control of the government”.

“With any respect for him, he was part of those people who supported the cancellation of Babangida on June 12. It was part of it. His mother, Haija Mogaji of Lagos, organized the women of the Lagos market in Abuja to support Babangida. I am saying it because it is history. I do not mean any damage or lack of bad …

“I feel very entertained by the rhetoric of Tinubu. The way he is dramatizing his role in Nigerian democracy. He was actively on the ground with Babangida. Tinubu, after being the Nigerian president, decided to rewrite and deconstruct the story. He added the former governor.

… the presidency recovers

By contrasting the position in a strongly formulated declaration, the presidency described its observations as a clear distortion of the democratic history of Nigeria and also clarified the role of the late Tinubu mother during the cancellation period.

He said: “The statements of Alhaji Lamido represent a distortion of history and a deplorable attempt at revisionism. He said that President Tinubu became overturning only after the formation of Nadeco and said that the mother of Tinubu, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, mobilizes market women to support the annulencies. These attachments are clearly false.

“Let’s let the record: Alhaja Mogaji has never mobilized the market women to support unfair cancellation. If he had done it, he would have lost his position as a market leader in Lagos. While he once had a personal relationship with the then President Babangida, he was before the announcement crisis.”

Making further clarifications, Omanuga said: “It is important to remind the Nigerians that Alhaji Lamido, as secretary of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) – The party whose candidate, Mko Abiola, won the elections of 12 June, wrote the book on the infamous who opposed the people who have passed the people who have passed the people who went unjust.

“In marked contrast, Senator Bola Tinubu was stopped even before General Abacha dissolved the political parties and all the democratic institutions, including the National Assembly, on November 17, 1993, following his coup. From the days after General Babangida had turned to the Senate and announced his decision to pass aside on 27 August 1993, the creation of a provisional government to replace him, the senators. they passed the speech.

“On the Senate level of August 19, 1993, Tinubu has unequivocally condemned the cancellation, describing it as another coup and soliciting the Nigerians to reject injustice and illegality. The registers have captured his contribution, showing that he claimed to support the elections of 12 June, not against it, as Lamido claimed,” he further added.

Quoting Tinubu’s Words During the Debate on the Floor of the Senate, The statement Said: “We have a situation that suggests that the abortion of the june 12 election is another coup of Etat. My question is, when are we Going to Stop Tolerating Injustices, Coup d’état and abuse by the People on Whom We agent So Much Resources—The Public Funds of this Country?… Yes, it is true that we have a crisis, but for every action, there must be a reaction.

“This is a self -inflicted crisis because, without the abortion or cancellation of the elections of 12 June, there would be no crisis like this. We have a government that made the law and abused its law. Therefore, the current military administration, by virtue of the repeal and violation of its decree, has committed a crime.

“The electoral winner, Abiola, was out of the country when the legislators discussed the offer of Babangida to get aside for an interim government. He returned in September 1993. And who followed him to the military group of Abacha, then openly planning a blow against Ernest Shonekan, guided? Was Tinubu. The photographs exist today, showing Tinubu behind Abuciola and Abaciola.”

The declaration also highlighted the opposition of Tinubu to the coup d’état led by Abacha. “Abaccha took over on November 17, 1993 and dissolved all the democratic institutions, including governors, the national assembly and the state legislator. Tinubu and a group of senators had recognized themselves in Lagos, challenging the junta. Tinubu, Ameh Ebute, Abu Ibrahim and others were arrested and held in Alagbon.

“The police brought them to court and built a case against them. During the detention of the police, Tinubu continued to finance the protests Pro-12 June in Lagos, including the blockage of the third continental bridge. Weeks after Abacha supplicated Eng, it became quickly clear to Abiola and Tinubu that Abachaha would not have been a soldier of democracy while he made the fact of having left the.

… nadeco

On the reference of Lamido to the National Democratic Coalition (Nadeco), he said that the body was born on May 15, 1994, included “a large coalition of Nigerian Democrats, invited the military government of Sani Abacha to resign to the winner of 12 June 1993, Mko Abiola.

“On the first anniversary of his elections, Abiola made a statement to Epetedo in Lagos, announcing himself as the duly elected president. Ten days later, on June 22, he was arrested, following which many pro-democratic activists fled by Nigeria, including Bola Tinubu, also fled.

“Tinubu lived in exile for almost five years while Lamido and his kind made agreements with Abacha. While Tinubu was away, the agents of the junta bombed his home in Balarabe Musa Crescent, Victoria Island.

“Fortunately, Lamido admitted that Tinubu played a significant role in Nadeco. In fact, Tinubu has done more. He also supported Nalicon of Professor Wole Soyinka, offering material resources to feed the struggle.

“It is known that Tinubu played a leading role in the agitation against the cancellation of 12 June. Many leaders and journalists of Nadeco in exile and home have openly admitted that Tinubu has supported them and provided them with the struggle for the struggle.

“With his narrative, Lamido appeared confused on the role of Nadeco. It was a branch of the crisis of 12 June. Nadeco has provided a platform to channel the struggle. So far, all the resistance has been left to groups for civil rights, journalists and a work section, such as Nupeng,” said the Presidency.

By expressing disappointment for the “turning point” of the history of the former governor, the declaration said: “It is therefore disappointing that Alhaji Lamido, despite having recognized the role of Nadeco di Tinubu, would try to rewrite the story for political reasons and to be a member of the coalition of the disgust.

“We recommend Lamido to control his facts before going on television to spread falsehood. He does not help his image and the coalition to which he belongs to revisionism. Revisionism does not need the cause of the truth or interests of our nation.

“We do not want to believe that Alhaji Lamido suffers from what psychologists call high poppy syndrome. However, the conclusion is inevitable as it seems that Lamido is envious of the democratic credentials of Tinubu. The facts remain clear: the president Tinubu – and remains – a stable defender.
