How to request the national identity number (NIN) 2025
Everything you need to know about the national identity number (NIN) of usefulness to the application method.
What is the national identity number (NIN)?
The national identification number (NIN) consists of 11 non -intelligible numbers chosen at random and assigned to an individual after the completion of registration in the National Identity Database (NIDB).
Once a nin is assigned to an individual, he can never be reassigned, given or used by another person – which makes him unique.
In the case of the disappearance of an individual, his nin is removed once a death certificate is presented to the Commission and the death of the individual is established.
The NIN is used to link all recordings on an individual in the database and is also used to establish or verify their identity.
All legal citizens and residents of Nigeria, zero age (birth) and more, are eligible to register for their nine.
How to register in Nin?
Nin registration consists of recording the demographic data of an individual and the capture of the ten (10) fingerprints, the facial image in mind
It is very important that you apply on the NIMC pre-registration portal and that you follow the defined process to request the national identification number.
Please note that candidates for assistance with the registration form have the possibility of visiting the registration center where they will be assisted by a support agent to correctly fill in the registration form with the required information.
Supporting documents
Enter the nearest NIMC registration center with your BVN if you have one and one of the following original and valid support documents:
- Old national identity card
- Driving license
- Voter card (temporary or permanent)
- Nigerian international passport
- Original certificate
- Letter of certificate from a primary sovereign of your community
- Birth certificate
- Age declaration
- Letter of certificate from the religious / traditional leader
- NHIS identity card
- Government staff identity card
- Recorded / recognized private organization identity card
- School identity card (private / audience)
- Tax authorization certificate
- Valid immigration documents
Step 1:
Fill out the preliminary online form, download and print the pre-registration slip
- Fill out the NIMC online pre -rolling form by visiting Pre-registration portal
- All compulsory fields must be completely filled with correct information.
- Download and print your pre-registration slip
Step 2:
Submit your request
- Enter the nearest NIMC registration center with one of the following original and valid support documents.
- In the registration center, you will be directed to a counter where our registration agent will check the presence and compliance of all the details of your request.
- If your request is in order, the registration manager will guide you to capture biometrics (ten diverneous imprints and facial image) and you will collect the transaction identification shift as proof of the transaction.
Note :
- Applicants who cannot read or write must be accompanied by an literate individual who can make the filling form for him.
- Minor candidates should be accompanied by parents / tutors can fill in the form for them.
- Minor candidates should only provide the original and valid birth certificate and the nin shift in one of the Nigerian parents / tutors.
Step 3:
Nin program
- The normal deadline for the publication of the National Identification Shield (NIN) is 2 to 3 working days from the moment the biometric details are captured in the registration centers.
- Nin’s emission can take more time in some cases due to the validation of details in NIMC. VFS has no role to play in accelerating for such cases.
- The transaction identification shift must be stored carefully by the applicant, because it must be presented at the time of the Nin Slip collection indicating the completion of the registration
