The Governor of the state of Kwara, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has expressed an overwhelming joy when Kwara United Football Club won the Cup of the Federation of the President of 2025, the first time that any state team has raised the prestigious trophy since its creation in 1967.
The Boys Harmony secured the title after a dramatic penalty victory 4โ3 over Abakaliki FC in the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, after a goals without goals in the regulation time.

“I am overwhelmed by the joy when I joined Harmony Boys from Kwara United tonight in Lagos to take home the Cup of the Federation of President of 2025, the first time that any team of our state won the prestigious trophy since 1967,” said the governor in a statement.
He praised the players, the training team, the Management, the State Sports Commission of Kwara and the Supportadores Club, and extended the appreciation for the Kwarans in the diaspora for their support. He described the victory as a reflection of the “team spirit, discipline, determination and sand.”
Governor Abdulrazaq also celebrated another important milestone for the State: the emergence of Kwara’s contingent as national champions in the president’s senior school debate competition, marking the first victory of the State at that level. This follows a winning streak three times of Kwara’s students in the Junior category under the State Board of Universal Basic Education (Subeb).
“These victories are not a coincidence,” said the governor. “They are deserving hard work and strategic investments in youth development, sports, education and other key sectors of the economy.”
He congratulated all Kwaranos at home and abroad, affirming the state’s commitment to maintain his impulse in sports, education and youth empowerment.
