“The health of people, animals and the environment are connected in a complex way,” said Pate. “That’s why we established the Health Management Committee and we are launching this approach in preparations for the 2026 conference.”

The 2026 Amr conference should offer transformative results and model the international policy that leads to the high -level meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on Amr later that year. It will serve as a platform for countries to share innovations, resize the best practices and reaffirm the commitments towards the global objectives of 2030 related to Amr.

Nigeria has extended an invitation to governments, development partners, private sector, academic world and civil society to convene to Abuja – described by Pate as a city that symbolizes “resilience and ambition” – to trace the course for a stronger global action against Amr.

Full collaboration in the Center highlighting the need for a multisectoral collaboration, Pate stressed that effective amr strategies require contributions from health, livestock, agricultural and environmental sectors.

“We have to work together to develop sustainable solutions that guarantee our health systems, food safety and ecosystems,” he said.

The minister of cattle development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, observes the growing threat that the Amr places to the Nigeria cattle sector – a critical pillar of rural sustenance.

“The antimicrobial resistance is not just a health problem; it is a threat to our food systems and our rural economies,” said Maiha. “No single sector can face Amr alone. The only health approach is essential.”

The Minister of the Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, represented by the director of the control of pollution and environmental health, Omotunde Adeola, attracted attention to the environmental dimension of the Amr crisis.

“Amr is not just a challenge for public health, it is an environmental emergency,” said Adeola. “The environment acts both from the tank and the transmission path for resistant microorganisms, often due to the improper disposal of waste, the hospital outflow and pollution.”

Adeola underlined the need for sustainable practices, strongest waste management systems and integrated hygiene strategies in the context of the AMR national response.

United Front for a global challenge with the support of key characters such as Professor Yabu Chichibu and Dr. Ayodle Alakija, the Ministerial Consultative Committee has started the preparatory work to guarantee the hosting of the Nigeria of the 2026 conference.
